GSCP: Many regions in “Alarm Status” for fire risk on Saturday, August 10

An “extreme fire risk” is anticipated for tomorrow 10th of August 2019 and for many areas in the country according to the daily assessment map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, setting an Alarm Status (Danger Category 5) for the following Regions:
• Attica (including the island of Kythera)
• Central Greece (eastern Boeotia, central and southern Evia Island)
• Peloponnese (Corinth, Argolis, Arcadia, eastern Laconia).
Also a warning for “very high fire risk” (Danger Category 4) was issued regarding the Regions of:
• Northern Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria)
• Southern Aegean (the Cyclades Islands)
• Peloponnese (the remaining districts)
• Central Greece (the remaining districts of Evia, Boeotia as well as Skyros Island, Fthiotida and Fokida)
• Western Greece (Achaia, Ilia)
• Ionian Islands (Zakynthos)
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection ( of the Ministry of Citizen Protection has informed the national departments concerned, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, to be on an increased level of civil protection readiness and respond promptly in case there is a forest fire outbreak.
At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection calls all citizens to be extremely cautious and avoid actions in the countryside that may accidentally cause fire, such as burning dry grass and branches or debris, using spinning machines such as circular saws or welding machines, lighting outdoor barbecues, bee smoking, throwing away lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that during the fire season the prescribed field burning is prohibited.
In the event of fire, citizens are urged to notify the Fire Corps dialing 199.
